Good Snow in Colorado!

Darth Vader, SkiingWe’ve been getting really good snow in Colorado!

Monarch finally got hammered last week and opened on Friday – it hasn’t stopped snowing since! Monday was full-on faceshots every run and now the word is out.

It’s supposed to be clearing up tomorrow and the next day – but pounding again for the Christmas holiday.

We got the goods . . .

I know, I know . . . “I should had a GoPro” . . . stay tuned, I just thought it was too early to break it out.

The base is still only about 40″ but on the main runs it’s enough to blast around on with the rock skis. Crested Butte really got dumped on and they’re talking 5ft! It’s Snow Time – we’ve got some really good snow for you here in Colorado!

Around Colorado

Most of the other areas are already open but that’s because of massive amounts of snow-making equipment. A Basin and Wolf Creek are always a sure bet for early season training but if you have ever experienced the difference between man-made snow and all-natural snow – I’m not talking bottomless deep pow – but just what you have to ride to get back to the chair, all-natural snow is amazing!

Even when it groomed, you can’t believe the difference. THAT is why Monarch has the best snow in Colorado . . . since 1939 I might add! It’s one of the Colorado Gems.

Colorado Gems

Just in case you don’t know what the Colorado Gems are (and where you find the good snow in Colorado WITHOUT the crowds, shuttles, and pretense), here’s the list:

  • Arapahoe Basin (A Basin)
  • Eldora
  • Loveland
  • Monarch
  • Powderhorn
  • Ski Cooper
  • Ski Granby Ranch
  • Sunlight Mountain

I haven’t skied all of them but I was hoping this was going to be the year (2013) to hit them all do an in-depth review and report, but it ain’t in the cards – too busy. BUT, check out my “resorts” page to get the run-down on all 28 of the Colorado resorts.

The SNOW . . . is in Colorado!
