Howelsen Hill Ski Area

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, Howelsen  Hill Ski Area is practically part of downtown Steamboat Springs. For anyone looking to find a great ski and snowboard experience, one of the easiest resorts to get to which boasts high quality skiing is Howelsen.

Howelsen Hill Ski Area has been in continual use longer than any other ski mountain in the state of Colorado. Dating all the way to 1914, Howelsen Hill has been home to millions of skiers throughout the past 95 plus years. This respected ski center was set up in this location because it is perfectly positioned to receive the lion’s share of the abundant snowfall the Rocky Mountains are so famous for.

Because of the mountain’s long history with skiers, it has been home to some impressive ski competitions and contests. In fact, the training facility here is the most respected in North America, having sent more competitive skiers to competitions abroad than any other area in this country or in Canada. The numbers are astounding. Over 50 skiers in the Olympics, over 90 total appearances in the Olympics, and 15 members belonging to the Hall of Fame for the Colorado Ski society, as well as 6 skiers from Howelsen that are members of the National Ski Hall of Fame.

Howelsen Hill Reviews:

My Take: Howelsen Hill is a historic and adorable little place. Because it is one of those places that skiing first started makes you just want to go there and stare up at the hill and imagine all that has gone on there in the way of skiing. Skiing – in 1914? Imagine that! It’s a simple little spot, my Mom & Dad lived in Steamboat for about 15 years and we went over there several times. More valuable for its nostalgia, Howelsen Hill needs to be on your list.
